The Image, Sound and Synthesis Research Group (GRISS), is a consolidated research group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, created in 1980, recognised by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Grup 2009SGR1013) and part of the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising.
It focuses on the study of the communication process in all audiovisual media, including new types and forms of media. The various projects carried out are focused on the processes of production, diffusion and reception.
The results of these studies are applicable to the strategies of creation, programming and planning of communication in the audiovisual field and the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).
They are also applicable to the interpretation of the social consequences and the orientation of communication policies. Additionally they provide in depth knowledge of the language of the various types and forms of media and audience behaviour in the process of consumption of cultural industries.
Finally they deliver competence in the design of communication and in content engineering, fields in which a good deal of our activity in terms of the transfer of technology to society and industry is focused.
To develop our activities we count on three permanent observatories: Euromonitor (television observatory of the main European markets since 1988 and the North American market since 1997), Radiomonitor (permanent radio observatory since 1996) and OIM2 (international observatory of interactive multimedia applications, off line and on line) articulated on the Network of Prix Möbius International since 1992.
